As most of you know, there have been some major changes in the world over the last two months.
First and biggest item of note. Zombie Plague.
There has been a communicable disease introduced into the Human population, first outbreak was in Detroit, followed the night after in several other cities around the globe, among them, San Francisco, Paris, Berlin, Tokyo and Shanghai.
This plague is communicable much like rabies, through the bite of an infected victim, there has been no success isolating or identifying the cause, or discovering if someone is a carrier. Victims bitten have been known to turn any time within moments, to 72 hours after infection, with the vast majority turning right right around the 24 hour mark. Roughly three fourths of those bitten turn.
The effects of the plague on a human, complete body hair loss, increase muscle mass, especially in the legs, enlarged jaws and teeth, and bleaching of the skin. Oh, and the obvious desire to eat everything made of meat. Like people. And Vampires. Especially people. Tasty tasty people. Thankfully, the infected seem to be averse to strong light, and nocturnal by nature, sunlight seems to drive them into a catatonic state, and even strong electronic light weakens them. They die of starvation after three weeks or so.
A full quarantine of the outbreak cities was instituted, followed shortly by the quarantine of every major city in the world. Those with outbreaks, to keep them in, those without, to keep itself clean. Small cities, towns, suburbs or rural areas have been left to fend for themselves, many of which have been hit hard or completely eradicated.
Within the first month of the outbreak the (Cammarilla) vampire population of Vancouver Canada's officially broke their masquerade and declared their ownership of the city and it's surrounding territories. The world at first didn't really know what to make of this fact, until the Canadian Armed Forces attempted to move into the city to restore order. During the conflict, several brigades turned on their fellows, and forced their retreat from the city. One of the battles, videoed apparently for this specific purpose, included at least five vampires using obvious supernatural (mostly physical prowess, some thaum) powers to drive the troops out of the city. An obvious attempt was made to minimize the damage and loss of life by the rebel troops and their Vampire allies. This video was later released worldwide, a break in the near constant coverage of the plague and it's effects.
Within the next month, several more cities have followed suit.
What this all means inside Detroit. Detroit now resembles Beirut during the worst of it's troubles. Small areas or buildings have been taken over by groups or organizations.
Notable locations include,
Red Wings Stadium: The night of the outbreak, Red Wings Stadium was used as an evacuation site, cordoned off by the military, and completely isolated. It is now a veritable fortress, with heavily armed guards that shoot first, shoot often, and shoot until it's turned to dust and has no possibility of getting up again. Several times, soldiers who had become cut off within the city have been shot down by the guards on the perimeter, they are taking no chances. As of this point, 15' steel and brick walls have been erected around location, with both armed guards and cameras atop it.
Renaissance Center and it's surrounding high rises have all been seized by Priscus Robert, with all smaller buildings around the structures being demolished and cleared to allow a clear field of view.
Several buildings or neighborhoods have likewise been secured, through various means. Most of the cities remaining police force have taken up residence in the Detroit Opera House.
Vehicular traffic at this point is almost non-existent, as while there are plenty of cars in operable or semi operable condition, there are no sources of fuel any longer. Electricity is spotty at best, and water to several areas has been completely cut off. Power only seems constant at two locations that you have known of so far, at the Renaissance Center and the Joe Lewis Arena (Redwings Stadium), both of which have floodlights throughout the night.
Food sources for the few remaining humans is still plentiful, though foraging is dangerous due the infected, and conflicts between foraging parties is getting common. Supermarkets and the like have long since been cleaned out of their most important supplies and dry/canned goods, so raids on private homes is the norm for foragers. Usually the houses are empty, though once and awhile someone discovers a nest of infected, or a squatter that has managed to survive, at least until then.
Lake Eerie has turned completely black, and people going near it often do not return.
Vampire Politics Notes:
First and foremost, vampire world spanning organizations seem to have come to a screeching halt, at least for now. Everyone seems fully occupied trying to maintain their little piece of the world, and figure out a way to live in it.
Within Detroit, Robert seems to be in about the same position he was before, providing logistical support and advice, and providing a place to crawl into to live. He has one rule, do not do anything to fuck with his ability to keep the Renaissance Center protected. If you do, you will either be destroyed outright, or banished from his protection, depending on the scale of disruption you caused. Stupidity is not an excuse. Accidents are not tolerated. Humans are constantly becoming more scarce, feeding to excess and killing stock isn't tolerated.
Furthermore, due to the enforced closeness of the situation, those sleeping at the Center have come to find out that Robert is active during the day, and is rumored to have been seen in the sunlight, though he rarely leaves his offices for any reason.
Archbishop William has been seen in the city, obviously infected by the plague.
No one knows who is in control within the Redwings Stadium, but whoever it is has control of some serious military hardware.
