Hey guys,
I guess I'll start us off. I must have missed where people are supposed to enter the user name and password stuff, but I don't want to use it either way. This is Charlie who plays Bishop Antonio. I have no problem with anyone seeing my name because I think people should have the strength of character to own their issues for better or worse. I'm not trying to slam anyone else, but that's just how I personally prefer to do things, and I hope that this will encourage others to do the same. While I appreciate that you're trying to coax people to speak up without fear of repercussions, I've never cared for anonymous complaints, either giving or receiving them. I see it as just a form of internet courage and I have no respect for it.
To my complaint: The occult influence attack. While I am totally down with the staff creating some drama for the players to pursue, and I'm also down with people taking influence hits (Vito made the perfect point - it doesn't cost xp to raise them), what I have issue with is the IC execution. Now, I don't know if anything else has happened that wasn't in the IC rumors to support this action, and I trust the staff to just own up to their position either way. But here's what it looks like to the casual observer: Burning down some bookstores is enough to drop occult influence by two dots. I went online to the detroit yellowpages, and there was exactly one bookstore that even remotely resembled anything related to new age or the occult, and the rest of the page was a bunch of online order-only websites. Even factoring in that this game is in the world of darkness and there might certainly be more occult bookstores around WOD Detroit, occult influence is tied much more to people: armchair occultists, eccentric sidestream religious practitioners, secret societies, hermetic lodges, witch covens, bizarre cults, hedge wizards, etc. Not to mention that occult is one of those influences that can also be justified with connections to people outside the city. There have been no reports of any unusual murders, just burned-down bookstores. If someone has their occult influence ICly explained by some baccanal greek sex cult ritualists, exactly how do they get depleted by a few burned stores?
Just so I'm clear, I'm bringing this up because this action done this way sets a precedent. My character has had no repercussions to his influences from this action, so I have no invested personal interest in getting this resolved. It just doesn't make sense to me as is. If/when someone on staff decides to say :'OF COURSE there was more done behind the scenes that no one saw,' frankly that has been heard before and true or not, it won't be nearly as appreciated as if there had been some kind of evidence to support it that had already been posted. If there is a PC rtesponsible, that's different because it means they were just clever enough to cover their tracks. I realize that's a double standard, but it's just how some people see things, including me.
I will respectfully ask the staff to please look over these issues and address them here on the boards. I already know that I'm not the only one who feels this way on a lot of this, and I think it would behoove us all to have the chance to get some inside perspective.
Thanks guys,
Charlie
