Hey guys,
I'm just curious why blood must be spent at the beginning of the round only and not just as the book would indicate? Is this for flow of combat, or in response to something that happened?
There are a few actions that are reflexive and can be done at any time, like pumping blood into physical traits, for example. This is great because if, for example, I am bidding and losing multiple traits due to negatives and wound penalties, then I can still try to make up the difference w/blood. If I have to wait until the beginning of a round to do this, then I might not survive the round. Spending blood to fuel Celerity, for that matter, is reflexive according to LotN rev. If everyone has to spend blood at the same time, and only then, its as if the blood is being spent on something that would be a "full round" action, like Thaumaturgy, which isn't really the case.
Also say, for example, I am in the middle of combat and I'm planning on doing something, so I spend a blood to activate ... lets say feral claws. I didn't spend blood on Celerity because I forgot, or could be any other reason. So I wait my turn, and while I do I've suffered four levels of aggravated damage. I decide its time to leave, and that would be when I'd burn a blood to activate Celerity and Fair Escape. If I have to spend blood at the beginning of the turn only, then I can't do that.
Now that we have cards to represent our blood, it may be easier to keep track of who is spending blood on what, and should solve any problems that would otherwise have been resolved by having everyone spend blood at the beginning of the round.

I am very much in agreement with Alan on this matter. After reading his post, I took the time to read through Laws of the Night and its rules on blood expenditure. It made no mention of when in a round blood could be spent, which implies that it can be spent at any time in the turn. In cases of referencing rules texts, I believe that the absence of evidence is often the evidence of absence.
Most of the other house rules that have been introduced into this game seem sensible, either from a common sense point of view or from the experience of larps past. I do not see anything that suggests that this rule needs to exist, and do in fact believe that it serves as a detriment to the players when their characters are in tight situations, as Alan's examples have pointed out.
If, after reading all of the commentary on this topic from whoever decides to offer their opinion, the staff decides to keep with their house rule, I ask that you kindly post said rule in the House Rules thread, as it is nowhere to be found there.

I think it was a carry over house rule from past LARPs when running games. It makes combats move faster from staff point of view. However I will bring it up at the next meeting and we will dicuss it. The results will be posted.
