A scene of war, havoc and chaos only seen in fictional stories erupted in Corpus Christi Catholic Parish 19800 Pembroke Ave. Detroit, MI 48219 at the 8:30 morning Mass when a group of men walked in and began opening fire on Monsignor Hathath who was conducting mass at the time. As the violence began it was reported that various people from the crowd turned and began firing back at the men who started the shooting. This caused an immediate escalation in violence and both groups began opening fire on everyone in the church.
Neighbors reported what sound like fireworks going off around 8:47 AM followed by a loud boom before the church erupted into flames. Logan Smith was the only survivor of this carnage “As the men came in I heard shots going off in the main church. I was using the restroom at the time and was able to get out before the explosions went off and caused the church to catch fire. It’s a scary thought to think that the faithful have nowhere to turn.”
Police held a press conference stating that there was a mass killing spree and that an investigation is under way to figure out the motive. Everyone involved died in the gun fight leaving the total dead at 27. Families are being contacted before names will be released. There will be a memorial service at St. Joseph’s on Friday night at 8PM.
